April Snow 외출 Rated R-18

Hur Jin-Ho’s 외출 (April Snow) has been rated R-18 by the Korean Media Rating Board, for its immoral content and sex scenes. According to the Board’s spokesman, April Snow’s theme involves illegal love relationship that goes around the social and culture norms in Korea, which is not accepted by the viewers. Thus they assigned it as R-18 to forbid younger viewers.
Lee Geun-Pyo from distributors Show East commented: “More than particular nudity or exposure in any scene, they gave that rating for the overall tone of the film, which they describe as immoral and too revealing”. Thus, when they applied to the Media Rating Board for the rating for April Snow, they had it set at R-18. So in a way, the rating is within expectation of the show company.
The film, starring Bae Yong-Joon and Son Ye-Jin, is Hur’s comeback after a 4 year long hiatus. His previous films were the classic ‘8월의 크리스마스’ (Christmas in August), and well received arthouse drama ‘봄날은 간다’ (One Fine Spring Day). Theatrical release is set for September 8.
