Korea’s bluecord breaks into Japanese market
Bluecord Technology Co, a South Korean digital content company, said Monday it plans to launch a portable music player in Japan that carries songs from a new melodramatic movie.
The company’s portable music carrier Muket will contain up to 10 songs from the film “April Snow”, starring South Korean actor Bae Yong-joon, who has become a heartthrob among Japanese women, the company said.
The device, which will sell for about 7,000 yen (US$54), is similar to an MP3 player in appearance but lacks the functions to download or erase songs, Bluecord said.
Bluecord’s Muket will debut at a promotional event for the movie on Wednesday with more than 27,000 ardent fans expected to attend, it said.
“We decided to launch Muket because, in Japan, you can only hear MP3 music on computers, if not from an MP3 download site
specifically for MP3 players or mobile phones,” said Choi Yoon-sun, an official of Bluecord.
“In order to make matters easier, we came up with a device that carries the same digital music as an MP3 player but is also small, unlike regular CDs or CD players,” she added.
“April Snow” is the story of a man and women who discover their spouses’ infidelity, and the new love they develop for each another in that difficult situation. Bae plays In-su, a stage lighting director who is falling apart over his wife’s infidelity.
The movie is to be released simultaneously in South Korea and Japan on September 8.
Bae, 33, has risen to stardom in Japan and neighboring Asian countries for his leading role in the mega-hit South Korean television drama “Winter Sonata”.
